Casey
Lost 119 lbs
With Gastric Bypass Surgery
My name is Casey and I'm 39 yrs old. I had RNY on 3/19/2019. My highest weight was 280. On surgery day I was 265. Today I am 146 lbs of lean muscle. I have lost 119 lbs since my surgery. I went from a size 26 pants and 2x shirt to a size 6 pants and a small shirt! Before surgery, I had type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and a history of blood clots. I never had any energy and it was a struggle just to make it through the day. I could not be the wife and mother I wanted to be. My family deserved better. And with my health problems mounting at such a young age I feared my children would be left without a mother and my husband would be left as a widow way too soon. I have battled my weight since childhood. All my life I jumped on the bandwagon for every fad diet that came out. Never having any results and always regaining more than I lost. I tried joining gyms but my lack of energy and lack of confidence made that a very unpleasant dead end also. I had heard stories of success with gastric bypass but had also heard a lot of horror stories. After much research, I decided to attend one of Dr. Parrish's seminars. He explained the cycle we go through with dieting, the reasons those usually don't work, the harmful effects of yo-yo dieting, and how gastric bypass was different. He explained the benefits, the risks, and what to expect after the procedure. He explained how this was not a diet, it was a lifestyle change, and that the procedure was only a tool to help you with your new healthy lifestyle. He was so informative. I decided to schedule a consultation and went in for my appt in November 2018. After personally visiting with Dr. Parrish I was convinced this is what I needed to become the person I wanted to be for my family. I had to take several pre-op steps over the next few months to prepare me for the journey I was about to embark on. One of these steps was meeting a nutritionist to discuss my new healthy eating plan both before the procedure and in the weeks and months to follow. By the time my surgery date came, I had been well prepared and given a vast amount of resources and information to help me after the procedure. Everything I had ever known about preparing meals, portions, nutrition, and exercise was about to change and I was super excited and nervous at the same time but Dr. Parrish and his staff were there for me every step of the way. Within a week of surgery, the weight just started falling off. I couldn't believe my own eyes when I would step on the scale and those around me could not believe the changes I went through over the next year. As my weight continued to go down my health and all my prior conditions improved. My energy level went to a place I hadn't experienced since childhood. I felt and looked like a brand new person. 6 months after my surgery I was able to be taken off all of the medications I was on prior to surgery for diabetics and hypertension. The compliments I received boosted my confidence and encouraged me to keep going. I joined Planet Fitness and found that now I have a passion for lifting weights. It has become my new "food" of choice. This journey to the new me has been one of learning, changing habits, hard work, dedication, and even sacrifice. It was in no way an easy fix to a lifetime of problems. But in the end, it has been the best decision I have ever made and I do not regret or "miss" anything that was a part of my old lifestyle. Your success or failure with gastric bypass will be a result of your own effort and taking responsibility for your own faults. If you are looking for a miracle then RYN is not for you but if you are willing to truly change and work hard then the end results are totally worth it!
